Vivek Oberoi rushes back from South Africa for Mission Istaanbul Premiere
Vivek Oberoi has not been reading the unflattering stories about himself. "I prefer to read books," he laughs on his one-day visit to India---Mumbai-Pune-Delhi, to be more precise. Vivek landed on Wednesday evening, rushed to Pune for a personal visit, rushed back to Mumbai on Thursday and flew to Delhi for the premiere of Mission Istaanbul, thereby putting an end to all speculative stories about dissociating himself from the film.
Says Vivek, "I requested Tips to let me off just one day. Just for the Delhi premiere. Then I'm flying back to the join the unit. I'm really excited because I'll be seeing the complete film for the first time. Apu has shown me parts of the film. I've heard such great things about the film and my work."
Vivek is currently shooting a hush-hush project with Kumar Taurani of Tips. It features Vivek with Sanjay Kapoor and Vivek has three leading ladies opposite him. But Vivek isn't allowed to talk about it. "Mr. Kumar Taurani of Tips has been treating me really well. I'm shooting for his film in South Africa. It's an action thriller directed by a guy called Kookie Gulati who's actually a fantastic music video director doing his first feature film. I love the script. Beyond that I'm not allowed to say anything about the film."
But wasn't Vivek supposed to be in Mumbai for the Mission Istaanbul press conference?
"Yes, I couldn't make it on the 19th. I was shooting in South Africa. You see Mission Istaanbul was supposed to be released two weeks earlier. I was going all-out promoting it for two months. I kept myself completely free for the promotions till the 11th. But when the film got postponed to July 28, I had no option but to join my unit in South Africa. I'm really excited by my character in Mission Istaanbul."
Vivek has completely changed his look and hair for the Tips film. "Since I've to keep my look under wraps I've to wear a cap all the time. I joked with my producer Kumar Taurani. 'Normally actor producer ko topi pehnate hai. This time it's the other way around.'
The last 24 hours was hectic for the actor. "I'm so tired," Vivek said on Wednesday night. "I've flown 23 hours. I've become the jet-setting guy."

JTYJN girl Manjari to be seen next in a music video
Her 'What's That' act did get her all the attention in Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na. However, with a blockbuster to her name, Manjari Fadnis is now moving on and looking forward to her upcoming assignments. The first of them which would be unveiled for audiences any time now is a music video for which she shot some time back.
"This is a beautiful 'sufi' number which is sung by Krishna (of 'Maula Mere' - Chak De India and 'Main Jahaan Rahoon' - Namastey London) fame. He has cut an album and a music video has been made for one of the songs. It is a good platform for me as I am seen in Indian costumes. Also, since the video revolves around the character I enact, it does give me good visibility", informs Manjari who made her debut as a school girl in Rok Sako To Rok Lo four years back.
"It seems like such a long time back. However, from here on I believe the journey should get into a fast track mode", beams Manjari whose next film release would be I Am 24 where she faces the camera along with the likes of Rajat Kapoor, Ranvir Shorey, Neha Dhupia, Vijay Raaz, "It is a breezy entertainer and the comedy there is first of it's kinds as well. It was a riot shooting for the film."
Talking about her newfound success, Manjari goes on to exclaim, "I missed all the euphoria created by Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na on its release. I was stationed in Bangkok and the moment I landed in Mumbai, I could sense people looking at me strangely. Soon a young girl passed by me and said 'Hi Meghna' with a sweet smile. This is when I realized that the film and my character (Meghna) had caught on with people. Congratulatory calls have been coming in ever since then which by it's sheer quantum, to be honest, is a first as I didn't experience anything like that with Rok Sako To Rok Lo or Mumbai Salsa.
How about her now-famous 'What's That' act? One hears that it is getting popular as well in the campus circuit. "And also the 'Pappu Dance'", laughs Manjari, "So what if I couldn't be a part of the dance sequence, I still had a riot watching it over and over again. I am proud of the film and happy that youngsters have absorbed the flavor of the film so well. Things like 'What's That', 'Pappu Dance' and the cool costumes that we all had worn aren't always made with a thought; they just get made! I am happy that Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na is turning out to be a trendsetter of sorts."

Day 4 - Overwhelming response indicates likelihood of 3 additional shows
- Let's talk about the big news first. As per reliable sources, looking at the overwhelming response in Toronto and Trinidad, the tour has been extended by a day. Instead of Amsterdam hosting the grand finale on 29th August, Düsseldorf has been added to the scheme of things. While a show being held on 30th August at Düsseldorf is a certainty, there are also chances of a couple of more shows being added to the tour in the first week of September. Stay tuned for more updates!
- Coming back to what stars did in the day gone by. Well, most of them decided to enjoy the day off and catch up on some well deserved rest. The best part about their stay in LA was some good Indian food though! Everyone from Bachchans to Vishal and Shekhar (who arrived a day later after chilling out for an additional day in Trinidad) was treated to sumptuous Indian food which came as a bonus.
- Vishal, his wife, Shekhar and the rest of the band spent most of their time traveling. After their flight being delayed by an hour, insult to the injury came in the form of their aircraft continuing to hover around in the air before landing at LA. It was way past 1 AM that they eventually checked into the hotel.
- The hotel is a beauty in itself though! An exclusive super posh hotel at the famous Sunset Strip in LA, it boasts of a personalized villa for each of the stars (yes, you read it right)! Not just it offers a private dining hall and other basic facilities for everyone residing out there, it also boasts of a common courtyard where friends can come together for a chat. With a welcome champagne bottle helping everyone in regaining energy, the hotel is making sure that it turns out to be one 'unforgettable' outing for the visitors from India.
- No wonder patrons are extremely exercised about the hospitality extended by the hotel. Not just are the arrangements impeccable, for those looking at flexing some muscles, there is a famous gym out there which is touted to be THE BEST in America. Ahem ahem, someone out there is already thinking of getting into an extensive work out! However, what Vishal is longing for is the BEST BREAKFAST in America. Well, it's his tummy doing all the talking on an off day!
- Each of the stars is busy making his/her own plans of visiting varied zones in LA. While all of them have plans to get together for the screening of The Dark Knight later in the evening, in the day time a few of them are also planning to visit Universal Studios. Vishal for sure is quite excited since he would be catching up with the crew of Kambakth Ishq which is currently shooting at the studios. The common person present would be Anvita Dutt Guptan who has written the lyrics and dialogues of both Kambakth Ishq and Bachna Ae Haseeno.
- Meanwhile, Shekhar has all the plans to blow away his hard earned money in a matter of a day! Reason? He is aiming at hitting the jackpot in numerous casinos in LA. Has he ever won in the past? Well, he claims so, though people close to him state otherwise! Will he turn lucky? Stay tuned and we would report on that as well!
- Stupendous success of Toronto and Trinidad has resulted in word of mouth spread fast in the European continent as well. Since the show has been widely successful so far, number of other European cities (where there are currently no plans for the show to be hosted) are also showing keen interest in hosting the stars from India. Will they oblige and make it 'unforgettable' for the Europeans as well? Well, it is a wait and watch situation. Till then, everyone is looking at chilling out for one more day before getting ready to hit the stage once again on 26th July!

Sanjay Dutt's solo song from Alibaug goes out
Download Alibaug wallpapers
With Irrfan Khan finally taking over Sanjay Dutt's role in Sanjay Gupta's autobiographical Alibaug, there are further tragic developments in the ongoing saga of the severed friendship between Sanjay Dutt and Sanjay Gupta. The elegiac love song that Gupta recorded in Dutt's voice for Sanjay Dutt will now have to be scrapped.
"We'll have to get it done by a professional playback singer now," informs Gupta hours before the shooting resumes at an art gallery in Mumbai. "It won't be correct to have Sanjay Dutt's voice for Irrfan." Irrfan says he wouldn't mind lip-syncing to Dutt's voice. "But the only problem is, Sanjay Dutt has such a strong personality and image, and a voice to match. Audiences will immediately identify his voice and refuse to accept it as my voice. So I'd think a playback singer for me would be far more preferable."
So what happens to the footage and song from Alibaug featuring Mr. Dutt? "I guess it's of archival importance. One day I hope to sit down with my near and dear ones and look at what we shot and recorded as proof of how much Sanjay Dutt and I shared once," says Gupta. Interestingly, in spite of the Dutt-Gupta rift, Sanjay Dutt's special appearance in Gupta's Woodstock Villa was retained. "But that's because the song was filmed on Sanjay Dutt. Here we cannot go in the reverse direction and have Irrfan singing in Sanjay Dutt's voice," Gupta concludes.
Alibaug isn't the only White Feather film where Irrfan has replaced Sanjay Dutt. The role in Acid Factory that Irrfan did was also written for Dutt. In fact, promos with Dutt were shot. Does Irrfan enjoy replacing Dutt in Gupta's production house? "I don't see it that way at all," protests Irrfan. "No one can replace Sanjay Dutt. He has such a unique personality voice and body language. I can only bring my own personality into the roles and make them something quite different."

Percept Picture Company goes to Delhi High Court against UTV's Shoebite
Click above for more stills
This is one war that can put any of the corporate wars to shame. We are talking about the on gong war of the two leading giants of the Bollywood fraternity: Percept and UTV. For starters, sometime back Percept Picture Company had announced a film starring the Cheeni Kum pair of Amitabh Bachhan and Tabu. This film that was titled as Johnny Walker was supposed to be directed by Shoojit Sircar. Due to some reasons unknown, the film never saw the light of the day, even though the initial announcement was made.
Reportedly, Sircar then approached UTV with the same subject and had renamed it Shoebite, which is currently being filmed under UTV's production. This action of Sircar angered the Percept officials to no end, since the film belonged to them officially. That's the reason which prompted Shailendra Singh of Percept to approach the Delhi High Court, which gave away its decision to a long battle between both the production houses. The court's decision went in favour of Shailendra Singh, who has won the case.
Copy of the Court's order
"Percept approached the Delhi High Court to protect their intellectual property in the script Johny Walker which is registered. Counsel Mr. Rajiv Nayyar instructed by Ameet Naik of Naik, Naik and Company and Rishi Agarwal appeared for Percept. The Delhi High Court was prima facie convinced that Shoojit Sircar disregarded the terms of his engagement with Percept and is making the Amitabh Bachchan starrer film Shoebite with UTV, based on Percept's script. The Delhi high court observed that since UTV and Shoojit Sircar have encroached upon Percept's copyright in the script Johny Walker, on 16th July, 2008 the court has granted injunction restraining them from infringing Percept's copyright in the script and dialogue of the film Johny Walker in any manner including by making the film Shoebite based on the script".

The film will be inspired by Frank Capra's It Happened One Night. "Once we finalize the script and other modalities including the producer, we'll decide when to make it and who will play the female lead."
So after Karz, it's one more remake on the anvil for Himesh.

Sonu Nigam's 'Rafi Resurrected' tour in UK
Last week Sonu Nigam was with his new album 'Rafi Resurrected' on tour in UK. He was accompanied by the worldwide acknowledged and award winning City Of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) with its conductor Michael Seal.
The grand finale of the tour took place on July 20th in London Coliseum which was completely sold out. In front of the mostly Indian audience and supported by the female singer Gunjan Singh, Sonu Nigam sang 16 songs of the highly adored Indian singer Mohammad Rafi, who passed away in 1980.
Along with the great 75-piece symphony orchestra Sonu Nigam enthused the whole audience. Many of them have never before attended to a symphony concert and came only to listen to the old classical Rafi songs. But even the most sceptical Rafi fans got convinced by the outstanding performance of the singer and the orchestra and showed their enthusiasm by a thunderous applause during and a non-ending standing ovation at the end of the show.
Sonu Nigam, who is a dedicated Rafi fan since his childhood, was quite nervous before the concert. For him it was an extra-ordinary honour to take part on this project and to be considered as the singer for the album and the tour.
Normally adding his own values to the songs, this time Sonu Nigam stuck very closely to the originals, which was highly appreciated by the audience. At the beginning of the concert, the musicians of the orchestra and audience were standing up from their seats and had a minute of silence in remembrance of Mohammad Rafi.
This concert tour was not only something special, but also very unique; never before Indian classical music was newly-arranged by and for a Western symphonic orchestra and performed along with an Indian singer. The huge success of the three-city-tour in UK motivates SAREGAMA, as the organizer of the tour, to think about continuing it in Europe or even worldwide. The Berlin Philharmonie Hall (home of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra) might be considered as one of the potential extended tour stops.
