Musical Sound Effects Processors
Hip hop Effects processing
Music programs have several effects processors, that effect audio, box processor, effects mixers and mulit effects processors..
The main effects processors are chorus flanger, delay, reverb and distortion modules. These four are the basic effects modules that you might use. There are of course many others for example vocoder, phases and equalisers. These above mentioned are often used as channel effects
- Reverb is a way of giving sound a ambience an echo effect. The musical effect of reverb creates chords. The sound effect of reverb is to create a live feeling of sound being created in some form of hall or big room. Reverb modules normally have alot of effects presets.
- Delayed effects create an echo effect. Musically they also create potential chords. With this effecy you can of course control the level of the delay.
- Chorus/flangers add depth to recordings by adding a modulated delay. The parameters on the chorus/flanger control the delay and the modulation of the delay. Further parameters that give you control and allow you to synchronise the effects with things such as a matrix pattern sequencer.
Distortion modules do exactly that, they change sounds to create a new sound. This effects sound is often used in an effects mixer. - The effects processors that have been used are: vocoder, phaser, scream distortion and all of the above previously mentioned effects.
The vocoder was used on the bass drum to marry it to a symphonic sound.
Phasers can help create a lead synth sound.
Scream distortion was used to make the sound more unique.
The above previous mentioned effects were used by all the sounds except the live instruments. - Sometimes chose effects to bring pieces closer to their genre. Phasers and vocoders were very popular in the 80s.
